Capacity Building Project

The Hungarian Development Promotion Office (MFOI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) and the Ministry of Energy (EM), is implementing the three-year Hungarian LIFE Capacity Building Project, which started on June 1, 2023.

Project Overview

The “LIFE – Enhanced Capacity Building in Hungary” project aims to provide in-depth information and training on participation in LIFE projects for all eligible Hungarian stakeholders. Our goal is to expand existing competencies and knowledge and create platforms that assist applicants in generating, developing, and submitting LIFE projects.

We aim to increase the number of successful Hungarian project submissions. The project offers a personalized approach to address the current gaps that have hindered successful Hungarian LIFE project applications. It is tailored to various target groups, including beginners and advanced participants, national parks, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), large corporations, startups, municipalities, universities and research institutes, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), public service institutions. By addressing these challenges, the project aims to enhance Hungary’s participation and success in LIFE Programme funding.

The Hungarian Development Promotion Office (MFOI) was established by the Hungarian Government with the aim of carrying out advocacy activities and assisting Hungarian and Central Eastern European applicants in securing directly managed EU funds. As a background institution of the Ministry of Public Administration and Territorial Development, with a headquarters in Budapest and a representation in Brussels, its central role is to provide information on direct EU funds, funding opportunities, and related policies. It also establishes direct connections between Hungarian social and economic actors and EU institutions. Within this framework, it offers tailored support to its clients, from the emergence of development and project ideas to the submission of applications for directly managed funds.

The predecessor of the Ministry of Agriculture was founded on April 11, 1848. The ministry’s headquarters, currently under renovation, was the first public building constructed on Kossuth Square, located at 11 Kossuth Lajos Square. At present, within the scope of the Government’s duties and powers, the Minister of Agriculture is responsible for agricultural policy, rural development, food chain supervision, the food industry, forestry, land affairs, fisheries management, the authorization of agricultural irrigation-related water facilities that extract groundwater, nature conservation, mapping related to land administration and agricultural support, and game management. The independent Ministry of Energy was established by the government at the end of 2022 to effectively address the impacts of the international energy crisis. The ministry’s primary responsibilities include managing the energy transition, overseeing the green transition, ensuring energy sovereignty, and securing the conditions for affordable and safe energy supply. In addition to energy policy, the ministry is also responsible for mining, waste management, environmental protection, the transition to a circular economy, and water utility services. It supervises several key national public service companies in the sector, including the MVM Group and the National Waterworks. Since its establishment, the ministry has been led by Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos.
